Make a New Page
Adding extra pages to your website is easy.
First, decide where on the menu you want your new page to appear. (It doesn't matter if you get it wrong, since it is easy to move a page to a different location).
Your page could be a subpage of an existing page. Or it could be a first level page on the main menu (but this is really just another subpage, this time a subpage of the main site homepage).
Open the 'Page Tree' (use the 'Page' option from the main menu, and open any closed sections of the page tree by clicking on the + next to them). Browse to find the page which will be the 'parent' for your new page.
I'm going to make a page called 'Make a New Page' and I'm going to put it under 'Page Management', so I open the page tree and find 'Page Management'.
Now I click not on the text 'Page Management' but on the little yellow icon, and I hold my mouse still and wait for a little submenu to appear:
On this 'clickmenu' I select new and the display refreshes:
If your new page will the only subpage of the parent page, of ir you don't mind in which order the subpages end up, then click on the text 'Page (inside)'
If you want some control over the ordering of subpages then click the text 'Click here for wizard!' just under 'Page (inside)'.
This will show you a different view of the page tree:
Choose the location for your new page and click on the corresponding little arrow. For example, to locate the new page between 'Basic Page Editing' and 'Advanced Page Editing', click on the little arrow between those two pages, If instead I wanted to put my new page at the top of the submenu of pages below 'Page Management, then I would click the arrow which is below 'Page Management' and above 'Basic Page Editing'.
Now a screen appears into which you can type the name for the new page:
Points to note:
- Usually it is a good idea to tick the 'Hide Page' option. When you create a new page it will be blank, and so unless you want blank pages to appear on your website it is a good idea to 'hide' them until they are edited and ready for display.
- Leave 'Type' set at 'Standard' unless you have already learned about Advanced Page Features.
- 'Pagetitle' is the important field here. Whatever you enter here will be the title of the page in the menu, and also in the top bar ('title bar') of the visitor's browser. So put something short but which indicates the contents of this page to someone who is looking at your menu.
- 'Subtitle' is not used - leave blank.
- 'Hide in Menu' - leave unchecked unless you have already learned about Advanced Page Features.
When you are ready, click the Save icon (one of the little floppy disk images).
Do not click the plain X icon unless you want to abandon creating a new page. Probably the best choice here is the third icon, save and close, since after saving this screen there is nothing else to be done with it.
Now my new page appears in the page tree, but with a different icon since it is 'hidden'.
But hold on! I said I wanted it to appear below 'Basic Page Editing' but I got distracted in writing this tutorial and I put it in the wrong place. But it is easy to fix...

Entering Text on the New Page
The new page is blank. Entering the text on the page is almost the same as editing the text on an existing page. The only differnce is that when you go to edit the page there will not be any 'content element' on the page and you will need to add one before you start editing.
Choose the page for editing and click the button 'Create Page Content'. You will be offered a range of different types of 'content element' but - unless you have already learned about Advanced Page Features - you should only use the first one 'Regular text element'.
Click on 'Regular text element' and then proceed just the same as editing the text on an existing page. However since the page is probably hidden you will not be able to view your work by browsing your website. Instead, when saving your work, choose the 'Save and View' option, the save button with a magnifying glass, and it will show you a preview of the page even though it is not visible on the website.
TIP: When you create a new page, and even after you enter your first content on a new page, the 'last updated' date, which (depending on your choice of site design) is usually displayed and updated automatically when you update a page, will show as 1st January 1970! (Neither will it be listed on the 'Updated Pages' submenu).
This occurs because it shows the date that the content of the page was last updated, and a new page does not have updated content on it, and similarly new content has never been updated. Simply save your content twice, even without making any changes between saves, and the date will show properly thereafter.
