Hiding, Unhiding, and Deleting Pages
So you have a page that you don't want anyone to see. Your options include deleting it, or hiding it. The latter makes it invisible to your visitors, but it is still there in case you want to reactivate it (Unhide it) in the future, so you will not need to retype it from scratch.
Furthermore, even though your visitors cannot see the hidden page, from your admin login you can preview and edit the hidden page, then only unhide it once you are satisfied with the content and layout.
Once a page is deleted it cannot be reactivated, so in general it is best to hide a page unless you are quite sure that you will not want that content again.
NB some of the original pages created when your website was setup are protected so that they cannot be deleted. However you can still hide them, and if you wish to delete them then you can ask suppert to unprotect them to enable you to do this.
You can access the options to hide, unhide, and delete, in two ways:
- From the clickmenu (click on the yellow icon next to a page name, and wait until a little menu appears).
- From the "Edit Page Header" option which can be found when editing a page, and is also another option on the clickmenu.
Using the Clickmenu
-
If a page is hidden, the menu includes an option to unhide it
-
If a page is not hidden, the menu includes an option to hide it
-
The menu also includes an option to delete the page.
-
Another option on the clickmenu is 'Visibility Settings', and if you select this you will be taken to a screen which has a tickbox for hiding or unhiding the page.
Page Header Editing
If you select the option to edit the page header, you will see near the top of the screen a tickbox marked 'Hide'. Check to hide, uncheck to Unhide the page.
There is also a dustbin icon at the top of the page (5th from left on the image below) - this is used to delete the page.
Editing and Previewing Hidden Pages
When a page is hidden it cannot be seen by visitors to your website, including yourself. However, if you are editing a page so as to prepare it for publication you will want to preview it before unhiding it.
This is done by using the 'Save and View' option when editing the page. Use the icon of a floppy disk with a magnifying glass (second from left on the image above) to save the edits and popup a preview window. Correct any errors or add more text, and preview again. Only when you are fully satisfied with the content and its presentation do you unhide the page to publish it to your visitors.
